Next year, Audi will be adding a Q5 TDI to its American SUV lineup, featuring a 3.0-liter V6 diesel powerplant with 245-hp and 428 lb-ft of torque.

In its current model year, the Audi Q5 comes with three engine choices: a 2.0-liter turbo-four (211-hp, 258 lb-ft of torque), a 3.0-liter supercharged V6 (272-hp, 295 lb-ft of torque), and a hybrid 2.0-liter turbo-four with a 44-hp electric motor to pump out 208-hp combined.

The V6 diesel engine is the same powerplant found in the European SQ5 TDI model, though we’ll be seeing a detuned variant since the European-spec engine has 313-hp and 479 lb-ft of torque. The German automaker estimates that the diesel Q5 will hit 60-mph in less than 6.5 seconds and based on the European cycle will get around 37-mpg. EPA figures will be less, which won’t be released until the model is closer to hitting showrooms next summer.
